his nest

blog12DSCN41513DSCN4147

as Sam settles into the last seasons of life . the aged dog draws me into the yard

winter grass feels like a soft nest to him while we sit each day . gathering four o clock light

yucca pods in our yard confirm what I already feel and hold close to my heart

that simple beauty is found in a spent shell . open and curved . reaching towards blue

among natures palette in shades from sepia to gray . smooth and texture

there is understanding in a patch of january garden between a dog and me

Brings back memories. So many of us have had companions in this stage of life. My heart is breaking.

Such a sweet picture of Ben...a golden in his golden years. It is so difficult watching a pet age...our dog is 16 years old now and starting to show it and I just lost a beloved elder cat. Love your words...this is like a poem:)

give him a pat for me.

i was thinking along similar lines yesterday... and as the owner of an elderly dog myself, i recognize your sam's attitude of graceful, grateful, repose.

Elk!

have i inadvertently found you? i believe we met at Craig's and i saw you on Emily's imperfect prose link-up this week, so popped over! we are neighbors there this week! im the one entitled "Gazelle Sprinting @sixinthesticks", when in fact, the correct post title is "Us Just Dust". feel free to visit.

the prose and photography here are just astounding.

blessings and love,

Nacole

i sat here and cried. at the beauty in the last days, at the hardness of it, at your words - i can see the two of you in the afternoon light, sam nestling close to the earth. a nest.
bless you both.

xoxo my sweet friend.

And so - I'm crying. It's so sad..so hard when the dogs we love get old.

this is amazingly heartfelt by all who have read it....

sophie just turned 15 and i often wonder now....how much longer.

being here in the warmth has made her feel terribly lively and that's a good thing. i think snow and cold only brings arthritis :(

Oh my, an aging dog touches me. Remind me of my own best friend of 15 years. People who have never had a dog cannot grasp the connection being made. My dog was my angel. I know how weird and immature this sounds. A patch of lonely years between her and me.
